Spontaneous Art

I have been working out about 6 times a week for about 7 months now.  My wife got a job at the YMCA which helps me be accountable in attendance.  Doug and Faith work at the Y. We have too much fun laughing about stupid stuff, and it probably gives me a good break from cardio to weight lifting.
So I decided to just start drawing on the board while we were talking.  I drew Faith and Faith drew Doug.  It ended up leading to another conversation in art with another person that might lead to some more connections.  Pretty cool!  So for all you artist: let go, and do art.

Here is a piece that I hope to have finished by the end of the week. I will have these available in print format sometime next week.  I love the idea of going to Paris.  I have never been.  This is Charcoal on canvas.

I am going to be in another art show in Traveler's Rest on Oct. 26.  Please come visit me.  I have at every show I do.

It has been so busy; I have found the business to be growing so fast that I am just trying to keep up with life in general, let alone find time to blog.

Well thanks for stopping by.  I will post some new pictures of all the shows very soon.

Sasquatch Character Design

I was recently commissioned to design a character for a Project Manager for Buckner Steel CO.  There is an employee that has a nickname of Sasquatch do to his in girlish figure.  He wants a design for a T-shirt...little does he know that his superior really wants to make this into something special for him.  This drawing was with Pastels and Pen.  I will stage this character into a scene specific to steel erection.  I hope he likes it.

It's Football Season

Being a fan of college football in general has got me really feverish. With this season just getting underway for College football I thought it would be appropriate to draw picture of my favorite Coach.  Coach Mark Dantonio is a wonderful coach and a great role model. He coaches the Michigan State Spartans.  It just so happens the quarterback is from Midland Michigan. I think Andrew Maxwell could be a great quarterback. He struggled some last year and I'm anxious to see if he can step it up this year. In any case whatever your favorite team is have a wonderful football season and good luck. Go state!

Enchanted pond

I was thinking about the big trees and nice lakes in Midland, MI; and how much I miss that area.  My grandma Eunice used to paint watercolor a little like this.  She had much better technique than I do now.  I am very grateful for the artistic heritage that God Blessed me with.

Watercolor realism

So I wondered what kind of limits watercolor has.  I used to think that watercolor was just for painting colorful flower or forest paintings. I never could get past that false fact till just recently.  I inherited some watercolors and watercolor paper from my grandmother Eunice Everson and my Aunt Dorothy.  I decided to give them a try.  I have been pleasantly surprised.  Some of that surprise was anyway do do the fact that I stumbled upon some different techniques to help with control.  The biggest frustration most people have with watercolor is that it can seem very hard to control the watercolor.  That is just it though....let the watercolor do what it is going to do.  Let go.  However, if you are still in need of more control try dry on dry. In other words, dry brush on dry paper.  This is how I was able to achieve the control that you see in the picture below.  It almost has a pencil drawing look. Anyway, I am thinking of entering this piece into a small works competition.  I hope it goes well.

Yoda Oil Painting

So I started the next layer.  Almost done really.  Still not sure that oil is my favorite.  It is growing on me; I see it as a challenge.

Oil Beginner

Yes...it is true believe it or not I have not painted a true oil painting until now.  I know being an artist basically means that you paint with oils at some time....maybe that is why I stayed away from it.  I can say however that I am truly enjoying the medium. After all this pencil, color pencil, and watercolor I feel as though I have finally reached adolescence as an artist.  Of course, I have not yet finished the painting, and I have much to learn; yet I definitely have that artistic gratification with this current piece.  I will have Yoda up for sale soon.  Oil on canvas:11x14.

Painting of Max Scherzer of the Detroit Tigers

Ouch!  I sprained my ankle this morning.  Not cool.  It was very early and rainy out and I stepped on a hose and twisted it.  So, I spent most of the day elevating and icing my ankle.  Well, at least I was able to do some painting.  This is a painting of Max Scherzer pitcher for the Detroit Tigers.  Having most of my roots in MI, I have decided to do a series of Detroit Professional Players.  You can get a print of my artwork by clicking the link below the Picture.  Go Detroit!

Painting of Princess Leia

I have fallen in love with watercolor.  It feels so good to be able to be controlled for a little and then LET GO!  Let the water move where it wants.  I love the whole retro Star Wars culture, and I will be painting a number of pictures from the movies.  I will start with the older films first.  This reminds me; I think that it will be sweet to have the older actors in the new Trilogy!  Can not wait for that!

Iron Man Painting

I was going to do a family photo shoot of some friends of mine but the weather did not want to cooperate! So, to fulfill the need to be creative I thought that I would experiment with a kind of "live Speed Painting."  I took a little longer just because I could.  I thought that it would look cool to have the detail  mixed with the abstract a little.

I used acrylic paint on canvas.  I believe it is a 3ft x 2ft canvas.  This one will probably hang in my son Lincoln's room.  He loves Iron Man.
I am trying to figure out what I will do next...please comment or email me on what I should paint next

Polychromatic Drawing.

Hello bloggers.  It has been a while.  I recently got the art attack.  Namely polychromatic drawing. While at work, I mentioned to a customer that I like to draw...he in return mentioned how he had already been thinking of getting one done for his girlfriend.  So I had him text me a pic today. I am about half way through. The girl has some very cool colorful eyes.  So it was decided to do just the eyes in color.  It has been fun so far;and I hope they like it.
